Overnight Leader Bombs as ‘jinx34’ Wins GGMillion$ For $302k

The overnight leaders clashed at the felt in this week’s GGPoker GGMillion$, and there was one hand that divided viewers. The $10,300-entry weekly event saw life-changing sums of money awarded to the winners as a $302,000 top prize went to the Hong Kong-based player ‘jinx34’ after he beat Teun Mulder heads-up. But did the Italian overnight leader blow it?

Pre-Match Odds

With two massive chip stacks at the top the final table, it was a case of two big favorites when the GGPoker Betting Odds were represented in the pre-match show by regular host Jeff Gross and special guest and high-stakes poker pro Rayan ‘Beriuzy’ Chamas. Italian chip leader Enrico Camosci began with an incredible 99 big blinds and was the pre-match favorite at 3.44. A short distance behind him in terms of chips and odds was Hong Kong player ‘jinx34’, available at 4.4 with 94 big blinds.

The chasing pack featured one of the most successful online poker players on the planet, Linus Loeliger. The Austrian player began on 54 big blinds, but his formidable reputation made him just a 6.22 shot to win outright, despite being 40 bigs behind second in chips. Montenegrin ‘fatfrumos’ (48BB) started out a 9.76 bet, with Israeli players Ravid Garbi (35BB/11.16) and Barak Wisbrod (23BB/11.7) both good bets, with Garbi’s stack giving him the greater value.

The three remaining players, Dutch player Teun Mulder (29BB/11.7), Canadian hopeful Guillaume Nolet (19BB/17.86), and Austria’s ‘Clickwork’ (14BB/25.36) all looked to have a big mountain to climb. From all of this, we felt Camosci was the best pick from the top two players, but Linus Loeliger and Ravid Garbi were the best choices from the chasing pack.

The Key Action Unfolds

Early hands went against Canada’s Guillaume Nolet, as he busted in ninth place for $43,169. Fortunate to chop with ace-ten against ace-queen, Nolet then shoved pre-flop from the small blind with ace-jack and was looked up by the Montenegrin ‘fatfrumos’ with pocket sevens. The latter won that flip, and soon after, eight was seven. The short stack at the start of play, Austria-based ‘Clickwork’ shoved with king-queen into Ravid Garbi’s ace-queen. The dominating hand held to send the at-risk player home with $55,057.

Garbi was looking strong, but a decisive hand of the early stages would end his chances in dramatic fashion (1:22:22). Holding pocket nines, the Israeli saw a flop of T-T-7 land, as Camosci struck gold with ace-ten. His bet pushed ‘jinx34’ out of the way but kept Garbi along for the ride to an ace on the turn that completed the Italian’s full house and left Garbi drawing dead. Camosci checked to the river and a nine landed to make a full house for the Israeli player, albeit a weaker one.

“It’s the biggest cooler you could get!” Jeff Gross said, and he wasn’t wrong. This time, Camosci bet just 75,000 into the 667,000 pot. Garbi took the bait and raised it to 458,000, leading to Camosci’s predictable shove. Garbi called it off, and the massive hand went the Italian’s way, making him the new chip leader and sending Garbi home with $70,218 in seventh place.

Bad beats were a theme of the day, with Montenegro’s ‘fatfrumos’ losing with jacks against Teun Mulder’s pocket tens, a ten coming on the flop with all the money in pre-flop. Mulder then took out Loeliger, the Swiss player’s pocket kings (3:12:30), falling to the Dutch player’s rivered ace to reduce the field to four.

Three-handed play got underway when Barak Wisbrod lost a huge flip for the chip lead with ace-queen as ‘jinx34’ held pocket jacks that survived the board to take a massive lead into the latter stages. Mulder came back at the expense of Camosci and the overnight chip leader busted in third when (3:51:45) his ace-ten busted to the pocket nines of ‘jinx34’.

With a 2:1 chip lead, ‘jinx34’ had all the momentum when heads-up play started. And when the leader woke up with pocket eights (4:04:40), a call from Mulder with ace-nine put the pair on a collision course with two overcards. A safe board played out for the leader, and the player who came into play second in chips had won the day.

A thrilling final table ended with just one of the major chip stacks at the start still in with a chance, and ‘jinx34’ did not miss their shot, winning the $302,186 top prize at the expense of Teun Mulder, who should still be happy with a second-place finish given he came into play with the seventh biggest stack.

Was Camosci Too Loose as Chip Leader?

After an exciting conclusion, many players at the felt will point to losing flips as a reason they didn’t win, but that can sometimes cover other points of improvement. Enrico Camosci came in with the chip lead but frequently put himself in a position where luck would play too big a part; the big hand he lost to ‘jinx34’ is a prime example.

In the classic flip against the eventual winner, Camosci’s experience might have told him to fold pre-flop and give himself a chance to outplay his less experienced opponent post-flop. Indeed, at times the GTO Wizard often recommended a check when the Italian bet. Sometimes, this wasn’t too costly, but other times, it weakened the equity of his stack to the point where later pots were more dangerous for him than his opponents.

A good example of this was the hand where a board of J-J-8-4-A fell, with Camosci holding ace-ten and Mulder having ace-queen. He is out of position, but does not know he’s behind. GGWizard recommended the check, not the bet for value that, as we knew as viewers, simply wasn’t there.

Maybe next week for Camosci – after a session with the solver.
